There is a unique kind of magic in Lisbon in late spring. The city turns soft shades of lilac as the Jacaranda trees come into full bloom, creating a perfect backdrop for an effortlessly elegant garden ceremony.

Grace and Donald are lovers of travel, fine food, and timeless architecture, and they envisioned their celebration as an immersive cultural experience.

The New York couple began their day amidst the gilded mirrors and hand-painted ceilings of the 19th-century Pestana Palace. Their appreciation for detail was evident from the very first moment. We spent the morning creating timeless portraits, utilizing the soft, natural light streaming through the massive windows of the palace’s heritage salons.

The ceremony unfolded at Vandelli, the oldest botanical garden in Portugal. It is one of my favorite venues in the city—an oasis of lush greenery, neoclassical glasshouses, and sweeping views over Lisbon and the Tagus River.

The atmosphere was vibrant. The decorations blended seamlessly with the existing garden flora, and the fleeting beauty of the blooming Jacarandas elevated the event into a sensory masterpiece. As it was a sun-drenched afternoon, guests were offered paper umbrellas—a classic, thoughtful accent that added a layer of cinematic charm to the occasion.

Following the ceremony, we wandered through the gardens to capture the couple’s first moments as newlyweds. The resident white peacocks moved gracefully into view, adding a surreal, elegant touch to the story. It was a perfect blend of editorial style and genuine, joyful moments. As dusk settled, the celebration transitioned indoors for an intimate, candlelit dinner within the greenhouse.
